The table tennis club has opened its doors to new members and welcomes anyone interested in playing the game. Every Tuesday and Thursday morning, the international table tennis coach, Coach Gerry, leads club training in Gym C from 7:30 am to 8:45 am.

“Some students have tried table tennis for the first time and are learning the rules, learning how to play singles or doubles, and just enjoying the club,” said Cam Comeau, PE teacher.

Table tennis is an indoor sport also known as ping pong or whiff-whaff. The game usually involves two players, who play back and forth with small rackets over a rectangular table that measures nine feet long and five feet wide until one of the players strikes the ball or commits a foul. Table Tennis matches are normally played in sets of 11 or 21 points, with a maximum of five sets, with the winner being the one who wins three sets. Depending on the number of players, matches can be divided into singles and doubles.

To play table tennis effectively, you need good reaction time, hand-eye coordination, endurance, technical ability, and tactical understanding. Global competitions such as the Olympic Games and World Championships take place in this sport, which is highly regarded and highly competitive. In addition, table tennis is a popular leisure activity, played by many people in families and among friends.

“My goal is for them to participate with other school students who play table tennis in the next school year. To begin with, I want them to learn more about the basics of table tennis tetchiness,” said Gerry.

Table tennis is a sport that is both fun and challenging, and it is a game that works the body, improves mental health, provides endless entertainment, and offers endless challenges. If you haven’t tried table tennis before, find a partner to join the club for a game. This sport has a lot to offer, believe that you will benefit from it and enjoy it as well.
