Apple launched three major product lines after the iPhone: the iPad, Apple Watch and Airpod’s. All have changed how we all work play and function. The next footprint the company is making to the digital era is in augmented reality.
Apple has many products currently being planned; the next big step Apple is going to make is in augmented reality.
Augmented reality (AR) is an interactive experience that combines the real world and computer-generated content. According to MacRumors
The future product from Apple may be a set of augmented reality glasses called “Apple Glass.” According to multiple insiders such as Apple Insider, Jon Prosser, and Ming-Chi Kuo
Apple’s AR glasses have been rumored for several years, but a great deal of rumors suggest we could see them released within the next few years.
Google had something similar called Google Glass that was meant to lean into an AR wearable future. It failed for several reasons, including the excessively techy style, front-facing camera, and short battery life.
Apple is developing two AR projects that include an augmented reality headset set to be released in 2023 followed by a pair of augmented reality glasses coming later.
They could very well be close to achieving that future with a wearable heads-up display.
Later rumors pointed to delays in manufacturing the Apple glasses. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who has an 80.95% accuracy rate which makes him most reliable apple leaker says the Apple Glass may not be ready until 2025, with a set of AR contacts set for a 2030 launch.
Meanwhile analyst Jeff Pu who has an 50% accuracy rate, originally claimed that the Apple Glasses could launch in late 2024, alongside a second-generation version of the Apple VR/AR headset; however, the analyst has since pushed back his release date estimate to 2026.
Apple has a long way to go before it can release a pair of glasses with visuals on the lenses.
The Product need to be lightweight, hopefully have prescription lenses for people that wear glasses with enough battery life and stylish while still being a computing device, which is tough to do.
One of the more out their Apple patents suggest that Apple Glass could help you see better in the dark, via depth sensors that provide a greater look at the world around you.
Apple does not plan on including a camera in “Apple Glass” as the privacy, and social implications alone would be insurmountable.
As for the Apple Glass displays, the headset may use Sony OLED displays for AR, according to analyst Ross Young.
The glasses are expected to synchronize with a wearer’s iPhone to display things such as texts, emails, maps, and games over the user’s field of vision.
Meta aka Facebook hopes to be among the first companies to create a universal headset that brings AR and VR to the masses. No word has emerged from Apple beyond CEO Tim Cook’s continual praise of augmented reality and its future.
As such, it’s looking likely that we will have a couple of years to wait before they are revealed, with the Apple AR/VR headset likely to launch first.
Kuo said Apple’s product will be “the most complicated product Apple has ever designed,” he further said it will be a game changer for the headset industry.
The true power of AR comes from full 3D integration that will introduce a new era of technology, not just for Apple but it will impact the future of technology all around the globe.
