The senior boy basketball team has regrouped and established a new team, a new turning point, and a new team style after losing half of the team because some of them graduated and some left because of their studies. On November 28, they played two games, the tournament for our school team finished with a victory and a defeat, won by 40-45. But the final game was cancelled due to snow.
“Both games were pretty much blowouts, simply because one team could not adjust to the other’s play style,” said Adrian Cosman, grade 11 and team member. “Although losing our first game of the season like that was not a very good feeling, the coach always ensured that everyone on the bench was keeping up the energy and that all of the mid-game and post-game criticisms were constructive.”
According to the team member Tony Zhang, grade 11, he thinks it was a good lesson because this is the first tournament, and it is only through defeat that they can change and improve. “I appreciate my teammates and coach. Their words are the way for me to improve, whether to blame or praise,” added Tony Zhang, a grade 11 team member.
The basketball team members look forward to continuing to work with their teammates.
“I thought we did solid in these games. All my teammates and coaches are great guys,” said Max Parnell, a grade 12 team member.
“I thought the two games we played were good practice as we are technically still in pre-season. It was good for me as, in the second game, I found my rhythm and hope to continue to play well throughout the season,” said Bailey Truong, a grade 12 team member. “Some of my teams are more or less new to the sport, so I and some more experienced teammates need to help guide them to become better along with my coaches.”
“We need quite a few improvements. We were quite strong last year. The members from last year are just six, so they are mainly the main guys now,” said coach Roberto Arciaga, 01049. “And there’s quite a bit of a gap between skill level between last year and this year.”
This demonstrates that even though the team members are new, their interpersonal relationships are positive. Let us continue to look forward to the boys’ performance for the rest of this season!
