Soccer intramurals have started in the main gym at lunch, with students and possibly teachers participating.

Many come to the main gym to enjoy lunch intramurals. Patty Anderson, PE teacher, is sponsoring for this year’s lunch intramurals. The host teacher rotates between the PE teachers every year, said Anderson. “So far, the intramurals were fun! And seemed to have opened a good opportunity for students to socialize with those that share similar interests”. “Anyone is welcome to watch. However, food and drinks are to be left at the door” added Anderson.

“I occasionally follow my friend to the gym during lunch, it was interesting and would definitely go again” said Irene Kim, grade 10. It’s Kim’s first time seeing the lunch intramurals since coming to Gleneagle. Kim stated that she is “looking forward to the future intramurals”.

Those who sign up are promising attendance at games that start at 12:00. These intramurals happen every lunch hour and sports are rotated every time. If there aren’t enough players, students wearing proper clothing can join.

It’s close to three years since an open gym was available for students to enjoy sports. Both students and teachers missed having an open gym and are now excited to play and watch what the students and teachers have to offer.

The main gym is open for in-season sports, on Monday and Friday for the whole school year. From Tuesday to Thursday, the leagues are held, and only participants can join. First it was Volleyball, then indoor soccer, which is currently being held, and basketball.

Anderson stated “So far, it’s been fun. Students have shown respect to the rules and showed good sportsmanship.”

Anderson coaches and keeps track of points every lunch hour. Students of all grades are welcome to join. “It was exciting to see how well the students played together” Anderson concluded.

Anderson plays music on the speakers during the intramurals in order to create a fun atmosphere. Many students go there to hang out and watch the games as “it’s a nice place with entertainment, music, and friends” said Lynn Lee, grade 10.

Overall, Anderson is relieved that the season is rolling smoothly, and it makes her happy to see that students are happy to participate in these intramurals.
