Gleneagle Students now have the opportunity to learn or improve their tennis skills with the tennis club.

Tennis is one of the most important sports in Canada and it can involve many people; a sport practiced outdoors, the best seasons to play are fall and spring throughout the school year, or in summer during vacations.

The club started at the beginning of the year and was founded by Gleneagle students Rodyn Rostam, grade 11 and Daniel Jeong, grade 10.

“Me, and Daniel decided to create this Club, because we wanted to make an opportunity for everyone to play Tennis, learn, make new friends along the way, and potentially get some people to sign up for the School’s Gleneagle Tennis Team, that is going to start in Spring,” said Rostam.Indeed, a key point is, according to Rostam, that the tennis club can involve new people in this sport and encourage them to be part of the school team, when the season starts, in spring. RodynRostam describes the club as a place where everyone is welcome, and you can meet new people, make new friends, and have fun playing tennis. The club meets every Tuesday, after school at “Eagle Ridge courts,” close to Gleneagle. The sessions last between one hour and a half to two hours, but if you must leave earlier, you can. You can stay longer too, if you want to finish your game, or just spend more time with your friends.

“I played tennis for 4 years before creating the club, but I took lots of breaks in-between that time.” Grade 11 Rostam also said, “it was difficult for me at the beginning, because I had never played before. I would have liked to join a tennis club when I started to play this sport.” This is another reason he created the club, to help the tennis team members who have more difficulties. He further said that the tennis club was necessary also for the more experienced player, to have practice out of the season.

If you are a tennis fan and you are interested in joining the club, you can email Rodyn: 125-rrostam@sd43.bc.ca or Daniel: 125-djeong@sd43.bc.ca to get more information and sign up for the club.
