Last week, Gleneagle’s student council hosted the first Halloween spirit week after three years, which culminated with the Halloween parade on Monday. A week full of events, followed by Halloween day, where a handful of students were seen dressed up in costumes to celebrate.
“We want to make this Hallo-week the best one we’ve seen yet,” said Gyu Min Jang, grade 12, student council president. Jang and the student council committee prepared a spooky Halloween for everyone to enjoy! Six fun events were lined up, including a Halloween fashion show/costume competition, spirit week, boo-grams, photo booth, as well as a haunted house.
Jang stated “[the costume competition] is the first time in three years that we’re running it”. The competition was in the MPR at lunch on October 31.
Spirit week will take place from the 24th-28th. Information was posted on the Gleneagle Instagram page. Monday was meme day; Tuesday was twin day; Wednesday was anything but a backpack day; Thursday was throwback Thursday; and on Friday was grade color day. On Halloween, leadership students stood in front of the school entrance handing out treats or prizes for those who dressed up.
Boo-grams were sold from the week of 24-29 and were delivered and handed out to classes on Halloween during block three. “Everyone can purchase one and write a personalized anonymous message.” said Irene Park, Grade 12, student council, marketing executive.
The photo booth happened during lunch in room 220 on Halloween. Instead of the photo booth last year, how photos were emailed to recipients months later, the student council came up with a new plan! A Krispy Crème donut fundraiser was held on October 27 and sold out instantly. This was in order to raise money to buy an Instax camera for the photo booth.
“This is the first time the student council gets to actually make events happen that haven’t happened in a lot of years,” said Jang. The student council worked hard to make all these events happen, and hopes the school enjoys the activities!
The haunted house took place in portable one, on Friday the 28 at lunchtime. The student council did their best to organize an enjoyable experience. The haunted house had actors grab ankles, scream, and add sudden jump scares. The haunted house was decorated with coffins, skulls, dolls, and bloody hands around the portable. The atmosphere was perfect to be spooked!
“Halloween is the first event at our school that is purely for school spirit. It’s now our chance as student council to bring that student body together and finally bring some spirit back, and that starts with Halloween,” proudly said Jang.
