Tina Hashemi/staff reporter
Tina Hashemi is currently a grade 11 student in Gleneagle secondary school.
Her favorite subjects currently are math and science, which are the courses that she believes that she is strong at.
She had tried to challenge her skills in math by joining the Math Contest Club in all the three years of high school. She has gotten the Distinction award from the University of Waterloo from the grade 10 math contest, and she is aiming to get an higher mark for grade 11 contests. Throughout all the years in high school she has achieved her goal of getting Honor roll and Distinction certificate, and she is aiming for the Top Grade 11 student award this year.
She will be the grad of 2024, and until today she is proud that she has achieved great marks, has made great friendships with other students, and that she has been volunteering in math department to help others with her passion and strength subject.
She is in a family of four. She has one older sister named Tara who is five years older than her. Her sister looks younger than her age, therefore many people think they are twins. Her Dad is a university professor, and her mom is a surgeon.
Based on her father’s career and her familiarity with professor lives, she believes that a good teacher should be good at
- Time management
- Public speaking
- Leadership
When she was a little girl she liked to go with her dad to professors meetings, and her dad’s classes. She used to sit on her father’s sit which was the best sit in the class and do her multiplication table and feel smart in a class full of university students learning chemistry.
The person she looks up to is her mom, and she wants to become a surgeon just like her. She loved to go to her mom’s office as a kid and play there until her mom finished visiting the patients. She likes to become a surgeon but she don’t know what speciality she wants. She is more interested between plastic surgeon and cardiac surgeon. She knows that she will be a great surgeon.
Her favourite TV show is “Grey’s Anatomy” which is about surgeon’s lives, and hospital work. She feels connected to the movie because the main character of the movie was also a daughter of another surgeon who chose the same pathway as her mom, exactly what Hashemi wants to do.
She is an Iranian who has lived in three countries, Iran for 12 years, USA for a year, and Canada for the recent 4 years.
She has a lot of good memories in Iran, but also she is sad that because of the current leaders and their harsh dictator regime, the people in her country have gone through a lot of challenges.
One of the most memorable current event that she had will be the protest that she went to on Sunday, September 25th, at Vancouver Art Gallery. She is proud that as an Iranian she went to that protest and tried to be the voice of the people of her country.
She is fluent at two languages, Farsi, and English. She likes to spend time on learning new languages, so she is trying to learn Spanish, and Turkish. Her parents are Turkish Iranians, and they are fluent in both Turkish, and Farsi, which made her interested to learn Turkish.
She believes that Spanish is a beautiful language, and she likes to travel to Spain with her family and her aunt’s family, because one of her best childhood memories was the time she traveled to Germany with her family to her aunt’s house, and then they all traveled to Netherland, and France.
