Sophia Recinto / Staff reporter

Born in Canada on the day of October 3rd, Sophia Recinto is a 10th grader attending Gleneagle Secondary Highschool. When she graduates in 2025, she has a brief idea for life after secondary school. Her two favourite subjects are science and art, but she is looking for a career more rooted in sciences. Sophia plans to attend a university and get a degree. Two options are a veterinarian or a programmer as she had wanted those jobs before. She is satisfied with her history of grades so far but will continue to work hard to achieve greater things. Sophia’s academic goal is to have better time management and improve on social skills.

Sophia lives with her parents, two older sisters, and three pet cats. Her Filipino heritage is especially important to her identity. She has travelled to the Philippines twice where most of her extended family lives and wants to revisit soon. Her favourite Filipino dish is called sisig, pig parts and chicken livers chopped and mixed with seasonings such as onions, chilli peppers, calamansi, and dressing.

During Sophia’s free time, she spends time together with friends, plays video games, draws, does archery, and in the winter, snowboards. Her last memorable moment with friends was when she went camping in an RV for 2 days in the summer. She also enjoys reading, and her current favourite book is Vicious by V.E. Schwab. Sophia consumes a wide span of genres in shows, from Steven Universe to The Walking Dead. She loves listening to Gorillaz because of the cartoon members portrayed in the band with interesting lore that makes them feel real.

In the future, Sophia would love to go to Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She has been wanting to ever since the 5th grade when she did a project and discovered how beautiful it is. Sophia had never been to Europe before, so she thinks this would be an exotic experience.
