Yeonwoo Choi / Staff Reporter
My name is Yeonwoo Choi and I’m a grade 10 student in Gleneagle secondary school. I was born in South Korea, where I lived until 2011. When I was almost 4 years old, I moved to Vancouver. While living in Korea, my grandparents took care of me while my mom was in Canada. She visited frequently, until one day, she took me with her on the plane. Now, I live in Coquitlam, but I still visit Korea every few years.

Since moving to Canada, my mom and I have moved houses many times. We lived in several apartments in North Vancouver, but in 2015, we moved to a house in Coquitlam, for my mom’s work. It was quite hard for me to leave all my friends, but I got used to it eventually.

My mom has put me through many extracurricular activities ever since I lived with her, but the one that stuck was swimming. I’ve done many other sports like tennis, tae-kwon-do, gymnastics, and other more artistic stuff, but now, I only do swimming. Up to this day, and I’m sure I spend a lot of time swimming and it has grown to be a big part of my life.

Something I really enjoy doing is watching television shows. My two favourites are Gilmore Girls, and Banana Fish. In both shows, what makes me really enjoy them are the characters. In Gilmore Girls, my favourite character is Lorelai Gilmore, who is the mother. I really like how independent and good of a mother she is to Rory. In Banana Fish, my favourite character is Ash Lynx. He is the gang leader and main character, and I just really like his relationship with his friend, Eiji Okumura.

Another thing I do on my free time is read books. My favourite books are:
- Harry Potter (series)
- The Program (series)
- Counting by 7s
- Someday Suitcase
- The Giver
