There is a new addition to the Gleneagle library, with several tables and locations with jigsaw puzzles available for use. There are now over ten puzzles for any student to pick up and work on, with up to six students at the table at a time. The library is also accepting donations from the community if you want to add to their collection.
The inspiration for the puzzling stations in the library came from Val Eaton, librarian. Jigsaw puzzles, and puzzles have proven benefits according to the Baylor College of Medicine, including improving awareness, our ability to tell where objects are, short-term memory, and puzzle-solving skills.
Students and teachers have not heard much about the new addition, but most have a positive reaction to it, with Viktor May-Savage, grade 11, saying “It would be fun to play [with] puzzles with your friends”
Another student, Alexander Svirchev, grade 11 said “puzzles are pretty boring for me, however, what would be cool is to to add more engagement with something such as a puzzle competition during lunch.”
A teacher, Janelle Lee, math teacher, said “I like doing jigsaw puzzles myself, but I did not know about that [library puzzles] until just now!”
“You can put in two pieces in, twenty or a hundred, come to the library and contribute to our community puzzles!”, said Eaton.
