The senior badminton team has ended its season with a 2-2 record overall, yet missed the top three places in the district.
On April 5 and April 12, the team won their games against both Riverside and Terry Fox with the same record of 7-4. The team lost matches against Port Moody and Pinetree.
Lack of official drills with professional coaches was the main cause of the losses for the team. According to Katrina Law, grade 12. “We had our first game even before we could practice in school.”
“Our practices were mainly games. Maybe next year having more drills on specific techniques would make more improvement,” said Nathan Wong, one of the captains of the team.
“Our team definitely could have played better, but given the circumstances, I feel they’ve done the best they could,” said Janelle Lee, math teacher and the team sponsor. “Other schools usually have about three sponsors for badminton, but I’m the only one in our school.”
Instead of the result of the tournament, students valued the experience more. “It was obviously a fun experience which pulled me closer to badminton. Also, I got better cooperation with my teammates after these games. Aside from winning and losing, it has exceeded my expectation,” said Andy Lee, grade 12.
“Everyone in our team tried extra hard to win the games, and nobody had ever complained when faced the challenging opponents,” said Law. “Every member gave the team pride.”
