Sharks love to listen to death metal and like AC/DC. According to The Rolling stones Study: Sharks like listening to AC/DC and heavy metal by Ariana Zustra. In 2011 Matt Waller, a charter boater, listened with divers to AC/CD music when they were on the sea. He discoverd that sharks change their behaviour while listening to the music.
The animals came to his boat while they were playing the music. They reacted very calm and were curious, especially when they listened to “You Shook Me All Night Long” from AC/DC.
According to The 7 Senses of Sharks by the Shark Foundation sharks do not Sharks “hear”, by picking up vibrations, they have receptors on their bodies.
They can hear frequencies about a few kilometer distance, by a perception organ. This extends from their head along the side of their body down to the tail fin. They use the organ to detect schools of fish, who have the same low frequencies like death metal has.
Humans can hear sounds with frequencies between 20 and 20,000 hertz. Sharks, on the other hand, hear between 25 to about 600 hertz. This is the frequency range of the vibrations of sick or wounded animals.
Until now, great white sharks were mainly attracted with a mass of chopped up fish, bones and blood called “chum”. However, this led to aggressive behavior on the sharks. Matt Waller said that music made the sharks less aggressive.
For the discovery channel’s docu-show “ Bride Of Jaws” the film crew wanted to attract “Joan of Shark,” a well-known great white shark. They decided to attract the shark by the death metal method. After a short time two sharks appeared. One with the size of 4.2 meters.
Not every animal loves death metal. Some animals prefer classic instead of metal music. American farmer Derek for example, likes to play music to his cows. In addition classical music has a relaxing effect on the cows and they give more milk.
All in all is to say that animals like music and are drawn to different music types. Sharks get calm by listening to Death-Metal, while other fined classic music more relaxing.
