Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan is a phenomenal book, and I recommend it for anyone into romantic comedies. The book is definitely on a higher reading level because some parts are difficult to understand. The book is very humorous and gives the reader a good point of view of what it’s like being on both sides of the financial classes in Singapore.

The main character Rachel Chu encountered many obstacles throughout the story that always left you interested in the storyline. Whether or not it’s by making you laugh or something sad that has happened, I was always super interested and found it hard to put the book down. The whole love story about Rachel Chu and Nick Young was so well written, and I loved reading every bit of it.

The character development throughout the book is fantastic, such as Rachel chu slowly getting used to the rich lifestyle or Eleanor understanding that Nick doesn’t have to marry a wealthy Chinese family. Rachel’s mom is an excellent example of the less fortunate Asian families. She ran away from China with no money, and did not even know English but worked hard and became successful with determination. Compared to a wealthy Asian family, they are continuously funded with a good education that not all people can have, resulting in being extremely smart and worthy of inheriting a business that will make them millions. Not everyone has those opportunities, and this book demonstrated that you don’t need to be born into a family with money to be successful and happy. If anything, this book showed that being a part of these wealthy families is stressful. If you are a part of one of these families, I could imagine that you would feel the need to do perfectly in school and go to the best universities or else you’re unworthy of your family.

Overall I think this book is a fascinating and friendly book that made me laugh and cry, and I look forward to reading other novels by this writer.
