Wonder is a book written by Raquel Jaramillo Palacio, or R. J., which focuses on ten-year-old August “Auggie” Pullman, who was born with a facial disorder, starting his first year at a public school.
Auggie is passionate about a lot of things. He loves science, Star Wars and astronauts

“Auggie wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid,” wrote R. J. when describing the book. “but his new classmates can’t get past his extraordinary face.”

During this book, the characters are subject to bullying and other challenges, but overtime, we watch as they overcome it to show us that kindness will always shine through.

This book takes the story that tells and presents it through multiple character’s perspective by changing the person we follow at different moments. Some people we follow are Auggie’s sister Via Pullman, and Auggie’s classmate, Jack Will.

To us, these characters wouldn’t have been nearly as fleshed out in the book without these chapters. It really brought everything together.

“When given the choice to be right or kind, choose kind.” A quote from Auggie’s teacher, Mr. Browne. Auggie tries to follow this rule during the story and inspire other people to follow it as well. He does this by not telling people to follow this rule, but by showing them with his actions which is really inspiring.

Summer Dawson, one of Auggie’s friends, shows this when she come to sit with Auggie when no one is there to sit with him.

The antithesis of the would be Julian Albans who makes fun of Auggie and treats him like his facial disorder is the only thing about him. He often looks past everything the Auggie accomplishes.

Overall, this book was very entertaining from start to finish. I would recommend this book to anyone who thinks it interesting or is just looking for something to read. It feels very realistic and accurate to real life events and really shows how people think about others that have some sort of deformity.
