Riley Grant Student reporter

This was our pact came out June 11, 2019, tells the story of a group of six kids who want to find out where the lanterns that their town releases every year end up and after releasing their lanterns, they are off on their journey the sixth kid is not really friends with the rest of the group and gets made fun of and left behind. After a while one of the kids named Mikey stopped and turned for home then the second kid shortly after. Then they reached a bridge, a bridge that they swore to their parents they would never cross and two of them turned back now it was only ben on the bridge alone, until the sixth kid Nathaniel rode down right onto the bridge. This is great because it really is the start of their friendship

With him they have their first experience with a magical creature, but they don’t see it, it just looks at them from behind and disappears when they turn around this introduces us to the magical side of the story, after riding for a little longer they see a walking white bear with a scarf and a big basket called the fisher bear Ben thought he would ride as fast as he could past the bear but Nathaniel stopped to talk with the bear, I really like how this happens because it shows how adventurous and curious Nathaniel is compared to Ben

After talking to the bear, they realized that he is following his old family tradition and following the river down to a fishing hut to catch the fish, but Ben tells him that they are lanterns, then the bear goes on to tell them how his father brought back amazing fish and they had to be those lanterns, they all decided to travel together since they were going to the same place but then they get trapped in fog and they get lost and can’t find their way back until they find a cliff the bear decides to climb it while Nathaniel and Ben looked around until they found a elevator that led them up to a city they found a Wich who gave them a map but when she realized they had no money she sent them to work after one gets a chance to get out he leaves and helps the other escape as well with them map. They go into a cave that the map tells them to and find the bear again then they travel out of the cave and continue their adventure and get to the fishing spot when all of the lanterns start turning into fish and the bear starts to catch them. All the fish he doesn’t catch fly up into the sky and turn into stars then we see the bear and the boys part ways as Nathaniel and Ben start their bike ride around the world. I really enjoyed this book and would definitely suggest it for a quick read.
