The First Peoples Principal of learning I felt most drawn to was “learning ultimately supports the wellbeing of the self, the family, the community, the land, the spirits, and the ancestors.”

To me this means that learning and education is beneficial in a wide range of categories to one’s physical and emotional self. Learning in my eyes is also a unique experience for everyone and shows strengths and stretches in different areas for everyone.

From personal experience being in a learning environment has had its difficulties. In primary school I did not enjoy being in a school environment because I had troubles with other students and family which made it difficult mentally to learn and be present through lessons.

Through middle school I had a strong grade 6 year, but I had transitioned to homeschooling in grade seven because of the pandemic which I found particularly challenging and had caused a large amount of mental health struggles when I transitioned back to in person school during grade eight.

High school is when the tables had started to turn for me, my grades had started to improve and although I still had issues with other students watching my grades improve had been beneficial for my mental health making me overall happier.

Watching and reflecting on my learning along with mental, physical, and spiritual health has made me realize how much my outside life can factor into my learning and how much my learning can factor into my outside life.

When my learning and education is positive it has a positive affect on my well being so overall learning is beneficial to ones well being.

Learning has not only emotional benefits, but it also keeps your brain healthy, exercises your intelligence and keeps you motivated and healthy.
