The article “CATHIE HEMEON’S JOURNEY INTO SOCIAL WORK ON RESERVES” by Chloe Summer, is about the experiences of her Grandmother working on a reserve and doing social work for many years in the province. I really enjoyed reading this article and gained an understanding of Cathie Hemeon’s personal experiences and life decisions. I learned a lot about what social work is like and what social workers have to do. I was fascinated by the personal elements of this article, and how the author spoke about the personal characteristics, features of the elder, and how Hemeon was a wonderful family person. I noticed that there was a lot of detailed writing in this article. I admire the thoughtful work and think that I can learn from this article by adding the same amount of detail to my writing as well. The article also included many detailed photographs which help the reader understand the story as well. For example, the photo of the Nak’azadli Traditional Territory Map. This is definitely another take away of mine, I can use this to elevate my own articles as well. When you incorporate lots of images, you’re giving your reader visual context to the story. Overall, I was engrossed by this article and I hope that the takeaways I had from it can help me boost my own journalism skills.

The article “MY GRANDAD’S ARMY EXPERIENCES” by Poppy-Anne Elcock is about the story of her grandfather Peter Elliot who is a member of the Royal British Air force. This article was very interesting to read about, and it made me learn a lot about events around the world and the RAF. For example, before reading this article, I knew nothing about the crisis in Nepal in the 1980s. This article informed me about the extent of the food shortages that existed in Nepal at the time. I also found it very enjoyable to learn more about aviation as well. The article mentioned the World War Two Plane Spitfire and how Elliot flew this plane from England to Las Vegas. After learning about this specific plane, I was intrigued and did some additional research online and what I learned truly fascinated me. What I took away from this article was the fact that the writing was very grammatically accurate and that is definitely an aspect I want to continue to incorporate in my writing as well. I also enjoyed the fact that the sources where clearly mentioned in an organized way, this is an element that I would also like to continue to include in my articles from here on out.

The article “AMANDA GAO – FROM NOTHING TO EVERYTHING” by Lucia Chen is about the story of her mother’s close friend named Amanda Gao. This article was very interesting, it definitely made me admire Goa’s story and what she has had to go through in her life. By reading this article, I learned about the 1976 Tangshan earthquake in China and the people affected by it. I was invested in the personal connections that were made throughout the article, and it made me consider using more of these connections in my own writing. I truly admired the perseverance of Gao and how she managed to go from losing her parents in such a brutal earthquake to a successful businesswoman here in Canada. Her story was truly remarkable, and it taught me that no matter how hard your current situation is, you can always work hard to make it better. I think that is the beautiful message this article has to offer us.
