I chose to pick my brother “Carsen” for my Elder Interview: he has always had a passion for dogs, and always love petting and playing with them, he has always liked dogs but when are family was talking about adopting a dog he was surprisingly not very excited, maybe because he knew it would be a difficult job and a hard responsibility to look after a dog and be able to take a dog for a walk everyday, play with the dog, clean up after the dog and feed them. We decided to adopt a puppy, her name is Maya, it seems like she has every breed in her. She is part Husky/Pitbull/German Shepard/ and cattle dog, and has beautiful blue husky eyes. We adopted her from Mexico, she has had a rough past in Mexico, she lived on the streets and was bullied by kids in Mexico. Maya is a very agile dog and is very hyper and always has energy so she needs lots of exercise per day. She is very sweet and silly, but sometimes gets a little too hyper leading her to be a little to hyper for walks in the trail, which lead to this one night.

The week was going by fast and my mom was preparing for a running race out of the country, so she wasn’t around to look after the dog. Carsen was available to look after the dog for the weekend when my mom wasn’t around. Maya was injured during a walk a couple days before the weekend; and was taken to the vet, but the vet said it wasn’t to bad, and wasn’t 100% sure what the injury was: and still don’t exactly know what exactly it was. The day was going by until Carsen noticed something was off, Maya was licking her chest constantly and making noises she doesn’t make. “I went over to see what was going on, and her chest was covered in blood”, when Carsen went over he saw that Maya was licking her chest, and had some sort of lump or bite from something, and bursted during the night, and pretty much had a hole in her chest. Carsen was so worried at the time because Maya was bleeding and crying, and licking her blood of her chest which was not good. “I had no idea what to do”, so he called are Mom to tell her what was going on. The vets were closed at the time because this happened at about 12 at night, so there wasn’t much to do. The next morning he needed to take are dog to the vet, to get Maya checked out and get the wound wrapped and cleaned up. He went to the next door neighbor to ask if they could help and give Carsen a ride to the vet. The problem was that Maya wasn’t letting him pick her up into the car, he wasn’t gonna give up. He tried over and over and he finally got her up into the car, leaving scratches and bite marks everywhere.

The vets went pretty good, they said that she is going to be good but she has to be in recovery for a couple of months. We had to bandage and clean her wound up every night, at first it was difficult but as time went on we got used to it, and it was a normal procedure. Maya also hurt her leg after she recovered from her absest that bursted. Maya is now fully recovered and is now happy and able to go on more hikes in the trails. We hope this stays the same and she stays fully healthy.
