The article “The Story of a Boy Stuck in War” by Taha Asadi is about his father who was born in 1968 and got introduced to the war at the age of 12 after Iran-Iraq broke out in 1980, the year after the Islamic Republic replaced the monarchy. His father had to go fight in the war since he was the only male out of his siblings with having 3 older sisters. The war lasted 8 years so it lasted until he was 20 and was going to university and during those 8 years, it was the worst years of his life because of having to stay in a bunker and hope they didn’t get hit. His time in the war was not great and frightening but made him who he is today.

I was able to learn a lot from Taha’s article about the war and about what it was like to live in Iran at the time. Life in Iran was horrible during the war and walking out of your house and seeing the bodies of dead soldiers would have been scary. At a young age and being in a war zone can scare you for life so for him to come out of there alive and still having sanity is something special.

Something I could have included in my article is more pictures related to my dad and I could have split up the long paragraphs into 2 to make it not as boring. Something Taha’s article needed more of what it was like for his dad because the article was more about the war instead about his dad. He did have very good details about the war though.

The article “About Chef Frank Abbinante” by Yeonwoo Choi is about Chef Frank Abbinante who works at Gleneagle Secondary in Coquitlam and has been at the school for 16 years going on 17. He works in the cafeteria and does a Culinary program which gives you credits for school and “Culinary – Cook Level 1 Technical Training.” He has an Italian background, as his father is from Italy and his mother is from Canada.

Something Yeonwoo did well was giving background of Chef Abbinante and giving extra details about what he likes to do outside of the kitchen. It was also good that she added that he does “Culinary Cook – Level 1 Technical Training.” Something I could have added to my post was what my dad liked to do outside of his job so people could have learnt something other than what a truck driver does. Another thing I could have added to my blog post would have been a bit of background of my dad and where he is from.

The article “Father loses large amounts of jewelry in a robbery” by Jaymus Choi is about his father who went to Los Angeles with his coworkers for a business trip doing deal after deal and making a bunch of partnerships. During his time nearing the end of his trip on a narrow part of the highway, he gets stopped in the front and the back and had nowhere to go. He was just going to a pub but had many boxes of jewelry and seemed like these robbers have had experience. He was in so much shock and same with his co-workers, they weren’t able to call the police in time and so they couldn’t get any license plate.

Things Jaymus did well about his article was that he went into detail about the incident and explained everything really well. Another thing he was able to add was a bunch of pictures related to the incident such as the pictures of the broken car windows and even a hand drawn picture of the incident, even a picture of the building of the jewelry store. I also liked how Jaymus used a lot of quotes from his father and didn’t paraphrase them, so the story didn’t change. After reading Jaymus’s story, things I could have added to my story would be things like using more quotes from my father instead of paraphrasing most of what he said. Another thing I could have added, would have been explaining pictures and what they were because like the featured image, is a framed image given to my father. It was his old truck before they gave him a new truck (you will be able to find the picture on the internet).
