Last night, the MPR was home to the music department’s winter concert. Students, teachers, and parents enjoyed the concert, and it was a Christmas atmosphere that many of them felt. Juliana Ibarra-Ocampo, Grade 11 replied: “I really like the decorations especially the Christmas tree, it’s a really nice part which brings the whole Christmas spirit together and connects everyone.”
Students from the various band groups prepared themselves for a long time to hold this concert. Last year students had to wear masks and had no live audience, so it was a difficult and students are excited for the concert to be back to normal. To the question what the favorite song of the concert was Edward Trovato answered, “I like them all for a variety of reasons, for me it’s about finding the music that suits the group the best and features the strongest players in the ensembles and solos.”
Eleven songs were played, and wonderful moments took place with everything from a flute to a tuba and more instruments. Ella Kwon, Grade 12 said: “My favorite song was Winter Wonderland because I’ve been listening to that song since I’m a child and overall, everyone’s performance was great cause its holiday season and everyone was paying attention to the chords in the songs so that was awesome.”
The students enjoyed decorating the MPR around the concert and it looked beautiful and brought more Christmas vibes. Sarina Samadi, Grade 11 responded: “My favorite song was winter wonderland, it’s just nice that the band and concert are coming together, I was really excited about the local jazz, and we did the song ‘let it snow’, it was good, so I think the winter concert was a success!”
The effort that the students put into this concert was unbelievable, at the end of the night everyone did an excellent job and was relieved that everything went well. Christmas holidays are coming soon and with this concert we started to celebrate Christmas in its entirety. Finn Price, Grade 11 reaction to the winter concert: “Last night I think my favorite piece is called ‘Santa’s in town’, it’s a really fun song and it also had this little saxophone in trumpet feature which took a lot of effort to get down, but we did it I think, and then my favorite part was playing music with my friends and having a good time.”
The next concert is the jazz gala which is Gleneagles biggest fundraiser of the year, that is opened to everybody and that features the jazz ensembles. Special guests and special profession musicians are going to perform with Gleneagle students, there will be a sit-down dinner. That will take place on Saturday, February 25th.
