Last week, five leadership students ran a waffle fundraiser to raise money for the Canuck’s Place Children’s Hospice.

The fundraiser was held at lunch beside the cafeteria at the kiosk and were selling many different flavours of waffles which varied by day. These included flavours like Oreo, berry, chocolate, strawberry banana Nutella, apple cinnamon, which were $5 and plain waffles which were $4 and sold daily.

This fundraiser was run by Marco Navarro, grade 10, Jane Li, grade 11, Daniel-Min Seo, Nano Asaoka, and Bianca Anthony, grade 12,all part of the senior leadership class.

All proceeds will be going to the Canucks Place Children’s Hospice, a non-profit organization that provides response to pediatric palliative care by providing counselling and nursing services to many families that have young kids with illnesses. Canucks Place is based out of BC and Yukon and is funded by donations from individuals, companies, community partners, the provincial government, and the Vancouver Canucks.

We had to raise money for a fundraiser, and we all collectively decided to do Canucks Place Children’s Hospice because there are kids sick with lifelong illnesses, so they are in that hospice for their whole life, so we decided to help them,” said Anthony

This fundraiser was advertised in Instagram posts, posters around the school, and a sign in the front foyer.

They had the goal of raising $1000 dollars and the total amount of money raised was not available at time of publication, however, they managed to receive more support everyday.

“It was an amazing experience, and we love to see all the support,” said Anthony. “I think we all enjoyed making the waffles knowing that it’s going to a good cause.”
