With the holidays right around the corner the shelter society club has organized a bake sale for December 6 and 7 at lunch in the foyer. Students and staff will have the chance to buy sweets, pastries, and baked goods with all proceeds going to Covenant House which is, “committed to serve all youth with relentless support, absolute respect, and unconditional love; to help youth experiencing homelessness; and to protect and safeguard all youth in need.”
The shelter society will specifically be selling cupcakes, cream puffs, hot chocolate, and many more sweets with cash only being accepted. There will be lots of people buying sweets and exploring the different options.
Around 60 people are participating in this event from the planning to the baking to the selling. Jackie Peng, a shelter society club member says, “the shelter society club is very fortunate to have such great club members.”
The club’s goal is to raise a minimum of $200. This is also an opportunity to start volunteering, as it will be beneficial for students.
Donia Moeini a grade 10 student, is looking forward to the bake sale. She says, “I am looking forward to eating the delicious baked goods, alongside while I’m doing that, I know my donations are going to a good cause.” Moeini also commented, “I am excited to see and eat the different variations of sweets.” Moeini thinks the Covenant House is a great and trusted organization to donate money to, because it helps the people in need. Shelter Society club member, Naaz Mortazavi stated, “as of right now we are splitting into groups and trying to prepare by buying utensils and packaging for the event. We are excited to start planning and sharing the yummy sweets with the school.” Another student commented that they are also looking forward to the bake sale. Dorsa Hajimohammadi has stated, “I am happy to see staff and peers come back together as a community and interact, since covid stopped us from any social gatherings.”
