Gleneagles swim team competed in provincials last weekend in hope of coming out with a win. Most of the swim team was very confident they would do well in provincials, considering they have a national record holder who holds the record in eight individual, and five relay swimming events.
“I feel like we’re going to win all the relays because we have a pretty solid team,” said Mark Vetoshkin grade 9. “I feel like I might win a couple of metals.”
Gleneagle fought hard at provincials and made it to the finals in eight events. The girls team tied with Pinetree placing 13 out of 43 teams and is one of the top three girls teams in the district. The boys team placed 7 out of 44 teams and came just short of the best boys team in the district by one point behind Charles Best. Gleneagle won three gold medals and one silver medal.
“I am very pleased with the success of each of our athletes, I know that each of them swam with the intention of winning the event.” mentioned Mark Tustin swim coach. “My hope was for our swimmers to earn their personal best in each of their events and for them to enjoy their experience at the Provincial Championships.” said Mark. Gleneagle has some very good swimmers but not as many swimmers as most schools, therefore it is very impressive how well all of our swimmers swam.
