The team roster for the junior girls basketball team was announced on November 17 following two days of try outs. On Saturday November 5, the first try outs for the girls’ basketball junior team took place in the main gym, the second and last try out took place a few days later, on November 9.

Jenifer Zhou, grade 9 and new team member, who had played on the basketball team in grade 5, was surprised when she got told that she had made it into the team. “I was a bit surprised when I found out that I was in the team because I thought that I may not get in” said Zhou, but at the same time she felt incredibly happy and satisfied with her work. Zhou decided to try out for the team because she loves to be involved in school sports and thought it would be fun to play basketball even though, as she said,

“I’ve never played on a basketball team outside of my elementary school’s team”, added Zhou, who affirmed she does not have many expectations for the season, but is 100% sure that it is going to be fun, even during the most challenging practices.

Lastly, Tessa MacLeod, also grade 9, tried out for the girls basketball junior team with some of her friends. “I joined the team because I thought that it would be a fun after-school activity to do. I also joined because my mom played basketball in high school, and she is someone that I will always look up to.” MacLeod said. Unlike the other couple of students, MacLeod had previous experience with basketball, and that was one of the main reasons why, she wanted to join the team, “I was super excited [when she found out she was in the team] because I knew it would be a chance to improve my skills” she explained. Just as her teammates already said, MacLeod thinks it will be a fun season, since she already noticed how everyone tries their best and wants to improve, and she cannot wait to see all the girls cheering on each other.

The girls basketball junior team started training a couple of weeks ago, on November 10, and their first game is scheduled for December 12 against Charles Best Secondary School. The girls train three times a week, and just by noticing their excitement when speaking about the team, everyone knows they have a high chance of winning their next games.
