The two drama showcases Almost Maine and One Stoplight Town performed by the grade 9 and grade 11 classes took place on November 8 and November 9 after being postponed the previous week.

It was the first drama showcase of the year and the students from both classes worked for it to be successfully presented, being able to face all the difficulties they came across by working as a real team. “We, as a drama class, practice a lot and professional feedback is needed most of the time, but even when Justin Maller, ourdrama teacher, was very sick, we were still able to work as a team and try to make the best of the situation. I personally prepared for my role by going through my lines multiple times and talking to other people about how they think the character is being portrayed. And at some point I could really feel the emotions the character might feel and so I tried to put them into my acting” said Carolin Raum Davina, grade 11.

Some of the students, other than working on their own roles, tried to help as much as they could with the scenery settings and scene costumes, as Carolyn Berryman, grade 11, said:“ My character was Melvin, who is a cranky old man who provides commentary on the townspeople. I think that Melvin is a really funny character he also makes pretty astute observations, he was definitely one of my favourite characters and I was happy to get to play him. To prepare I’ve been helping find props and costume pieces for myself and my fellow cast members as well as working hard to memorize my lines.”

All this hard work from the drama students met all their expectations at the end of the showcase, leaving them full of proud for what they’ve been able to create by working together “My character was prodigal daughter and what I really liked about my character was that I needed to act like a wise person who actually knows more than Runaway while she is a person who might regret her past. We had been working on the show case from around one month and half ago. We rehearsed every day on the scene and got feed backs from Mr. Maller after our rehearsals. After my scene finished, I felt very satisfied as I think we presented even better than the rehearsals and being on the scene when audiences are watching you, makes you feel powerful and more energetic” said Yalda Rasulian, grade 12.
