My name is Carolyn Berryman and I am a student currently enrolled eleven at Gleneagle secondary school. In my spare time I enjoy reading, writing and watching fiction; I aspire to one day become a director of fictitious films and TV, specifically the fantasy or science fiction genres. At any given moment I can be found to be working on numerous different personal writing projects, such as writing a science fiction novel or drafting scripts for a sitcom.

Along with a love of writing, I enjoy other forms of art. For instance, I enjoy crochet and drawing. I often make scarfs and mittens for friends and charities. Additionally, I often enjoy drawing using multiple mediums; typically I draw either digitally or sketch with pencil and paper. Most of the time, whether I’m drawing or writing, I’m doing so to design new characters or to add to characters I have already developed. As well, I enjoy hair styling, which can be considered an art form; I often dye my own hair and am my friends and families go to person for their hair dying needs.
I have enjoyed writing and film from a young age and have always had a special interest in how film and writing intersect drawing or more “traditional” art. My initial love for reading, film and writing was sparked by books and films suck as a “wrinkle in time”, “harry potter” and “Percy Jackson” and has been sustained via shows like the immensely popular “stranger things”, supernatural sitcoms like “the good place” and fantastic cross-sections or film and drawing such as “Spiderman: into the spider verse”. These are all examples of films and television I strive to work on someday.
Along with many other creative outlets, I have a passion for music, while it is not an area I am particularly talented in, I like to think I can sing and write some songs. To add to this point, I can almost always be found listening to some kind of music, typically indie pop or rock; some artists I like are cavetown, Alec Benjamin and mother mother, to name a few. I appreciate the stories that can be told through music.
Concerning school, some of my favorite subjects are English, social studies and science. I like English for possibly obvious reasons, I deeply enjoy writing. As far as social studies go; I find the way that humans have acted throughout history vs. How we act now quite interesting. I think that the human condition is compelling, how have we as a society changed over the last millennia, century and decade is a question I often find myself returning to. I like science, specifically biology for this reason, I find it interesting to learn how we have changed not only from a societal angle but also from a scientific angle very intriguing.
Outside of school, I don’t belong to any sports or clubs currently, but I played hockey up until this most recent season for as long as I can remember, I couldn’t play this season due to injury, but hope to return to it in the future. When I’m not writing, drawing or participating in musical theatre, I enjoy cooking and making my own clothes.
