There are many people suffering from drug use in BC. The death number is growing. Recent studies in 2021 suggests 2224 people died from drugs. Most people get addicted when they use opioids.
The opioid crisis is growing and it’s impacts are felt heavily.It’s growing in many ways.Addiction happens because people’s bodies develop a tolerance. Fentanyl is a drug can make people addicted.Drug dealers say they’re selling Oxycodone but it’s fentanyl. Also , sometimes illicitly manufactured drugs may accidentally contain fentanyl when produced on surfaces and equipment contaminated with fentanyl. You can’t see, taste, or smell fentanyl, and a few fentanyl can kill people.


The people who take drugs get hurt. More than half people are died. According to statistics, 71% of people who died from an illicit drug overdose last year were between the ages of 30 and 59, and nearly eight in 10 of them were men. In addition, There are many young people are going astray. Mild anxiety in adolescence makes teens want to resolve, and drug use becomes their choice.
Vancouver, Surrey and Victoria have the highest deaths. The died in several places such as their places, such as residence, hotels, vehicles, sidewalks……Drug use is a disservice to drug users and their families. “For those who currently use drugs, to their families and communities who care for them and spend sleepless nights worrying for them, I say I’m sorry. You don’t deserve to live like this.” a drug addict said.


The government and some organizations are also looking for ways to stop the harm from happening.
On December 12, 2016, the Minister of Health announced Canada’s latest medicines strategy: the Canadian Drugs and Substances Strategy (CDSS). The CDSS guides the federal government’s response to all substance use issues, including the opioid overdose crisis, and initiatives to legalize and strictly regulate marijuana. Moms Stop the Harm (MSTH) is a network of Canadian families impacted by substance-use-related harms and deaths. Most families become members because they have family members who have been lost to drug use. Advocacy activities include many things.For example, meetings with political leaders,media and social media work,talks and presentations.
