A sad day for the community of Stanford university as a student athlete named Katie Meyer was found unresponsive in her dorm room. According to Stanford soccer star Katie Meyer, 22, died by suicide, coroner says  “the cause of death was to suicide, but it is still unknown as to how she did it. Meyer was a star captain for the Stanford soccer team and was known for her extraordinary skills and performances towards the game”.   

According to Katie Meyer Biography She was a fiercely competitive player and made two critical saves in a penalty shootout against North Carolina to help Stanford win its third NCAA women’s soccer championship in 2019.   

Meyer’s most famous moment came in 2019, when she saved a penalty shot during the NCAA women’s soccer championship. After making the save, Meyer had a celebration that went viral on social media.   

According to Ryan Gaydos’s article Stanford soccer star Katie Meyer, 22, died by suicide, coroner says Members of the Stanford women’s soccer team were interviewed about the news of Meyer and they stated she was as “a larger-than-life team player in all her pursuits, from choosing an academic discipline she said ‘changed my perspective on the world and the very important challenges that we need to work together to overcome’ to the passion she brought to the Cardinal women’s soccer program and to women’s sports in general”. 

 Also according to Parents of Stanford Soccer Star Katie Meyer Open Up About Her Death: ‘Worst Nightmare’, her parents spoke up about the situation and stated Katie Meyer’s parents, Gina, and Steven Meyer appeared on the “Today” show on Friday to talk about their daughter.

Steven Meyer said his daughter was facing repercussions from her defending a teammate and was facing a disciplinary trial.   

“We’re just, we’re struggling right now,” Gina Meyer added. “We are struggling to know what happened, and why it happened. We’re just heartbroken, so heartbroken.”
