The Emerging Talent Student Show is held across District 43 on January 21 at the Place des Arts in Coquitlam to showcase the achievements of aspiring student artists. Lily Chen, Yuli Ma, Sarina Chung, Bowha Kim, Neeka Yazdani, Jamie Lee, and Ella Quesnel all grade 12 students will participate from our school, Gleneagle Secondary, and they hope that the experience of hosting real exhibitions will provide them with real-life experience of what it is to be an artist.
Robyn Croft, art department header, said she hopes the show will give students a lot to gain. She specifically said, “We want our students to promote be part of community shows and understanding frame their work through real exhibitions,” She emphasized the importance of events for aspiring art students. “The most important thing about this event is to give students an experience that will help them become artists,” she said. By organizing a show like this for the students themselves, they can seriously think about their future and are very inspiring,” she added.
Fortunately, all of the participants seem to be taking the exhibition seriously, as most of the participants state that they have been working on their art since this summer. They use their ideas to get involved in their work. And also, for those wondering if this was a school project or some form of artwork that was to be produced under strict guidelines, Croft confirms that “the work to be submitted to this show will not be able to be submitted to the school, so their ideas and creativity will be further highlighted.”
Furthermore, our students participating in the show have reported that the show has many positive effects on post-secondary education. They hope that they will be given many experiences such as art shows so that there will be many opportunities for art students to progress. Chen, participating in the show, said, “This event allowed the professionals to experience a real exhibition. We are constantly creating and exhibiting new works of art. In the judgment of others, it helps us recognize what we can really improve on. This has given us a lot of positive influence as mentors for post-secondary education.” “There is a lot of positive perception about the show,” she said.
Croft said she hopes the Gleneagle students will pay as much attention to the show as there is a lot of effort put into it. She said, “For this show, students are submitting a lot of works using a lot of creativity and ideas. If Gleneagle students show interest and awareness, these events will be livelier and more fun. If you have time, I would like to see you at this exhibition.” Overall, this talent show should help these students to determine if this field is truly something that they desire to pursue, and perhaps kindle the passion of those that get to admire it.
