Swimming– Gleneagle was one of 108 school teams that qualified for the 2021 BCSS Provincial swim meet that was held in Richmond on 19-20 November. Eight swimmers made it to the finals and placed 5th in the mixed 200m freestyle relay and 7th for the girls 400m freestyle relay.
Cross Country– The cross-country team of 34 runners were awarded the coveted John Taylor trophy after winning 4 district championships and placing first out of 10 district schools. Kai Yan, Adam Crespi, and Sena Nakajima placed first in their district events. 17 runners qualified for provincials at Jericho Beach on November 6th where the boys team placed 8th out of 27 schools. Adam Crespi won the Gail Sayers district award for top male athlete and later finished tenth out of 231 runners at the provincials.
Soccer – After giving their absolute best with a limited number of players, the boys soccer team unfortunately did not advance past play-offs this season. However, their hard work and high spirits have laid a solid foundation for next season.
Volleyball – It was an exciting Volleyball season, with an all -round winning commitment from the junior and senior teams of girls and boys. The two senior teams saw plenty of matches going into nail biting marathon 5-sets. The senior boys’ team garnered three wins over Port Moody, Pinetree, and Heritage Woods. The final tournament or elimination round ran from November 16-18 and they played two very tough teams. The senior boys finished their season ranked fourth in the league. The Junior boys placed 2nd in the district and advanced to the Fraser North Zone Championship. Both the girls’ teams represented the school in two tournaments with pride while enjoying the extra on-court experiences. All four teams look primed to continue their winning ways in years to come.
Field Hockey – The 15 strong team did our school proud. After a third place in district playoffs at Maple Ridge, they came 4th in the region and achieved a respectable 8th place in the provincial championships held on 3-5 November in Duncan. Quick shout outs for the goalie Kaitlyn grade ten for having a great season, and Lara (German international student) for trying a sport, and sharing your international experience with us.
