This year’s Remembrance Day school assembly will be a live streaming event on November 10, as decided by the senior leadership class planning committee.
Chairperson Katarina Law, grade 12, and Cleo Chau, Trevor Ho, Jaida Masse, Skylar Smith, Stacy Park, Yedam Jang, all grade 11, are preparing for this assembly.

The assembly will implement to acknowledge the courage and sacrifice of those who served their country and appreciate our responsibility to work for the peace they fought hard to achieve.
Unlike before, due to Covid-19, it will be live streaming on YouTube. Regarding this, “We can see leaders and performers the same as before. The little difference is that we see it on the screen,” said Adam Hayes, leadership teacher,
The assembly will begin at 11:05 am and will be watched live in each student’s block 2 classrooms. Katarina Law and Cleo Chau will host. Poetry reading, choir, singing the national anthems, and speech by Wendy Yu, the principal will be shown in the assembly.
“Although it would be nicer to meet face to face as a whole school, the committee does such a great job and I want to express my thanks to them. This is one of the most important assemblies of the year because it gives me a chance to reflect and appreciate the freedom I have as a Canadian. I’m so grateful to live in this country and hope that everyone will take some time this Remembrance Day to stop and give thanks to those who served for this country,” said Yu.
“As the Remembrance Day Committee, I want this year’s National Theme of Remembrance Day, courage and sacrifice, to be emphasized throughout the Assembly,” said Cleo Chau. And “We are hoping to remind everyone about the importance of Remembrance Day by hosting this year’s assembly,” added Chau.
The audience has high expectations for the assembly. “I am well aware of how hard the students worked for an assembly that was different from before. That’s why I want to take time to reflect on it with a serious attitude,” said Eugene Oh, grade 11.

In addition, there are concerns that there may be problems with live streaming. “I am a bit nervous about the technical aspect. So, we are going to rely upon a tech team, a camera crew, and a sound crew. And We have to make sure that our live stream is seamless, that there are no mistakes along the way. I’m excited and a little apprehensive cause I’m not an expert in that, I have to trust that our student experts are going to be able to handle the challenges in front of them,” said Hayes. Also, “Having the assembly go-live will mean that all the technical setup needs to be well-planned to avoid technical issues and that the assembly isn’t too long to keep students focused,” said Chau.
