On October 9, 2006, Google announced that they were going to buy YouTube.
By November 2006 Google had officially purchased YouTube for 1.65 Billion dollars.
YouTube’s own revenue climbed quickly after the purchase. It hit $800 million in revenue in 2010 and rose to $19.8 billion in revenue by 2020, representing about 10% of the company that owns Google Alphabet which had a total revenue of $182 billion for that year.
YouTube, which was created in February, is quickly the most popular video site ever. There were more than 100 million videos and counting.
The first YouTube video uploaded was from Karim at the San Francisco Zoo.
In 2005, Google spent $130.5 million dollars buying a total of 15 small companies.
With control over YouTube, Google will grow a lot quicker.
And that is because YouTube is a very popular Video-Sharing site, used by many people, more and more and even more are signing up to start a YouTube channel.
“I’m confident that with this partnership we’ll have the flexibility and resources needed to pursue our goal of building the next-generation platform for serving media worldwide,” said Hurley, YouTube’s 29-year-old CEO.
People love sharing videos on YouTube.
There are many different things to upload on YouTube for the best or for the worst.
The most common videos uploaded are short videos.
There are more videos to upload such as: Showing Your Everyday life, Travel videos, Music videos, Doing fun challenges, Cooking, Baking, Unboxing, Talking about something, or Gaming.
While most videos posted on YouTube are homemade, the site also features volumes of copyrighted material — a problem that has caused some critics to predict the startup eventually would be sued into oblivion.
YouTube has grown a lot but in 2021, an app called Tiktok has surpassed YouTube’s daily watch time.
Google is well-known for its search engine which everybody knows about. Many people are concerned about the security and privacy of personal and financial information.
Now with this purchase Google has more control over the internet and people’s interests, what they watch and what they post. This can become a big issue as companies become bigger and more powerful
