Daylight saving time(DST) commences on the second Sunday of March and ends on the first Sunday of November. According to “10 things you didn’t know about this weekend’s daylight saving time change” by Daily Hive Staff Andrew. Some people want it gone because they think the benefit of Daylight saving time is overweight by the determined.

As everyone knows, Daylight saving time is advancing clocks during warmer months so that the darkness falls at a later clock time. In a nutshell,  DST is set the clock forward one hour in summer and turns it back at winter. The basic function of DST is to reduce the amount of lighting, to make full use of illumination. Sunset and sunrise are about 1 hour later on the second Sunday of March, so people have to turn on the light for the extra dark time. The implementation of DST can avoid the waste of energy.

According to “Daylight saving time returns to B.C this weekend ”by Adam Chan, “I think it’s quite clear that in the middle of a pandemic, making changes to daylight saving is not an urgent issue on people’s minds,” said Horgan in a statement on Sept. 18, 2020.”

Some people said some Asian countries like China, India and Japan cancelled the DST, so why can’t Canada cancel it too. For example, Daylight saving time is less use at low latitudes, also, in China, lots of restaurants are open until 11 p.m or longer. Compare with Canada, In North America, longer days and shorter nights are very obvious and the sunrise is much quicker than in Asian Countries, also there are still many restaurants in Canada are usually close before 7 p.m.
