The Senior girls rugby team won their first game of the regular season against Cowichan 42-0 on March 3.
The team also started the exhibition season with a win over Dr. Charles Best Secondary. The exhibition game played on February 20 at Dr. Charles Best Secondary resulted in a 30-5 victory for the girls rugby team.
The team is coming off a strong season as they finished 4th at the last years provincial championships.
The team had a small break from game action as two of their next games on February 25 and February 27 have been cancelled.
Coach Simon Quinto is excited to see how the team will perform this year.
“I feel that knowing we were so close and that we know what it takes to play a top contender, our players are hungry and committed. Many of them have been training all year and we have a lot of returning starters. I’m excited to coach a motivated team. It’s easy to push their limits because they want to be great.”
The team is happy to see the effort that is being put into practices and training by their teammates.
“So far the commitment and leadership of new and returning players has been great. Everyone is showing up to practice early and working on individual skills in their free time. Although we haven’t had any league games yet, the talent I see within practice is very promising.” said Riley McCartney grade 12.
“We have a pretty strong team this year. We have new girls coming out which is great. As well practice is looking clean and promising.” said Martia Mansurpur grade 12
